On 5 May 2025, we will celebrate 80 years of living in freedom. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of countries where this is not the case. Enough reason, therefore, to pay attention to something that seems so ordinary to us, with a special concert on the City Carillon in the tower of Enschede's Grote Kerk. This concert is also the second due to the fact that Enschede received city rights 700 years ago.
On Liberation Day, between 11.30 and 12.30, city carillonist Esther Schopman will play eleven international songs around the theme of peace, freedom and connection. Half of these will be sung by the person who suggested the song!
The carillon concert will open with a verse from the national anthem. Mayor Roelof Bleker will play it on the carillon together with Esther Schopman.
A screen will be placed on the Oude Markt so that visitors and passers-by can watch everything live. The concert can be followed via a livestream!
