Project CityCarillon in 150 Colours of Sound

What song does everyone from your native country know? What song means a lot to the people of your country and can everyone sing along?

Let us know via this link!

The tower of the Grote Kerk on the Oude Markt houses a carillon with 49 bells. Every Sunday between 1 and 2 PM, the city carillonist plays these bells with hands and feet. The steel tower on the campus of the University of Twente also houses a 49-bell carillon. The carillonist plays this instrument every Thursday between 12 and 1 PM.

If you are near the Oude Markt or strolling across campus at those times, you will hear the bells of the City Carillon or the Campus Carillon. How great would it be if every Enschede resident could sing along to at least one song?!

That's why we are collecting non-political songs from all 150 or so nationalities in our city from the residents of Enschede. In 2025, these songs will be played by the city carillonist on the City Carillon or the Campus Carillon during several special concerts.

On October 3rd, 16 children's songs will be played during a Carillon Festival at the University of Twente's Campus Carillon. Students, staff, and alumni of the University of Twente will join pupils from grades 3 through 8 of De Zonnewijzer primary school in Enschede for an internationally themed performance. De Zonnewijzer uit Enschede een internationaal getint optreden.
