Far from my Bed

In the musical series Far from my Bed we offer an artistic perspective on the collateral effects of severe conflict situations worldwide. The title refers to the Dutch expression “ver-van-mijn-bed-show,” something that happens far removed from your own world, whether literally or figuratively.

It often proves very difficult for us to truly empathize with profound suffering around us. Something you have not experienced yourself can only be imagined to a limited extent. Is it possible, through an artistic approach, to realize that an event or situation unfolding outside your own “bubble” - far from your own bed - can nevertheless affect you?

Episode 1

De eerste editie van Far from my Bed vond plaats op 23 juni 2024 bij het StadsCarillon in de Grote Kerk op de Oude Markt. Hierin werd het complexe conflict in de Palestijnse gebieden en de diepgaande gevolgen voor de betrokken bevolking en de wereldgemeenschap verklankt. Stadsbeiaardier Esther Schopman werkte samen met geluidskunstenaar en gitarist Kia Kalhori en Ud-speler Azarnoosh Khoddami.

Episode 2

De tweede aflevering in deze reeks vond plaats op 20 maart 2025. Deze keer werd femicide in Latijns-Amerika en de dreigende annexatie van Taiwan door China belicht. Deze voorstelling werd gemaakt door stadsbeiaardier Esther Schopman, de Taiwanese geluidskunstenaar Lena C., de Latijns-Amerikaanse componist Pedro Coloma en de Enschedese dichter Regine Hilhorst.

Episode 3

Voor episode drie heeft Esther Schopman contact gelegd met Daniela Carignani, alias Φili Naturä, een multimediale verhalenverteller. In deze voorstelling komt de mens-natuurrelatie onder een muzikaal vergrootglas te liggen, met een belangrijke nadruk op de complexe communicatie tussen mensen en insecten.
